Sip-n-Paint for the ERA

May 12, 2025 by Audrey Muck Leave a Comment

Sipping and Painting in WilmingtonWe’ve scheduled some fun Sip-n-Paint fundraisers for the ERA-NC Alliance this summer! Enjoy a glass of wine and some snacks, grab your brushes and help us raise funds for some exciting events we’re planning. We’re partnering with Wine & Design for these events. They provide the space, the art supplies and a painting instructor; we’re providing the first few bottles of wine (so you may want to bring some along as well!) and snacks.

Who are you inspired by … Frida Kahlo? Georgia O’Keeffe? Mary Cassatt? Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a famous artist to pick up some brushes and join us for a fun gathering. Visit our Facebook page for photos from past events. We can’t wait to see your works of art!

New bills affirm 28th Amendment to U.S. Constitution, urge N.C. to ratify ERA

North Carolina Rep. Julie von Haefen and Sen. Natalie Murdock introduced bills affirming the Equal Rights Amendment as the 28th Amendment and urging North Carolina to become the 39th state to ratify.

The ERA was fully ratified in January 2020, and has been affirmed as the 28th Amendment by the American Bar Association and respected constitutional scholars.

Rep Julie von Haefen“I am proud to be the primary House sponsor of this bill for the fourth consecutive session,” said Rep. von Haefen. “Some people may ask why our state still needs to pass a bill regarding the ERA after Virginia became the final state necessary for ratification in 2020. RATIFIED Screenings

October 1, 2024 by Audrey Muck Leave a Comment

RATIFIED is a feature documentary about the 100-year struggle for constitutional gender equality, and it’s an inspiring story of a multi-racial, multi-generational, bi-partisan effort to make Virginia the 38th and final state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.  It’s also a story of how bureaucracy is used to stifle progress, and it takes a close look at the incredible perseverance of women – specifically, the Black women leaders who have taken their rightful place at the front of the movement for gender equality. Our impact campaign will activate 15,000,000 Americans on the issue of gender equality.

The U.S. Senate IS set to affirm that the ERA is the 28th Amendment this Thursday

Floor speeches to begin at 6 p.m. TONIGHT on the Equal Rights Amendment’s rightful place in U.S. Constitution

It’s been:

• 1 year since the ERA went into effect.
And now finally. Finally.

The U.S. Senate votes Thursday to affirm that, yes, they agree that the Equal Rights Amendment is the enshrined 28th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Be there for this historic moment.

Bills Introduced at NCGA to Ratify ERA

March 8, 2023 by Audrey Muck Leave a Comment

ERA, that crazy notion of women’s equality,
is officially 100 years old

Raleigh — Alice Paul and Crystal Eastman wrote the Equal Rights Amendment a century ago: “Equal rights, under the law, shall not be denied or abridged, by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

The requisite 38 states have ratified the ERA but you will not find North Carolina on that list.

Yet.

Today, on International Women’s Day, Rep. Julie von Haefen and Sen. Natalie Murdock held a press conference announcing two new bills that will put North Carolina firmly on record as supporters of equal rights under the law for all its citizens.

Visit the ERA-NC Alliance YouTube channel or  Facebook page
to watch the press conference.

Tens of millions of Americans have assumed that the land of “liberty and justice for all” naturally included women. It does not.
