The Alliance at the Feminist 5K

On June 17, 2017, the annual Feminist 5K was held at John Chavis Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC.

Kennedy and Marge, State Action Team Facilitators, set up a table to represent the Alliance and displayed brochures, flyers, and Equal Means Equal by Jessica Neuwirth. They volunteered with Gailya Paliga, the president of one of our lead organizations, NC NOW, during the event. They spoke with activists, runners, and volunteers to educate them about the ERA ratification movement in North Carolina and our recent mobilization efforts.

New Op-Ed on the ERA

June 7th: ERA Cookie Drop

OPERATION: COOKIE DROP

Join the ERA-NC Alliance for Operation Cookie Drop: “I Love the ERA” at the North Carolina General Assembly at 16 West Jones Street in Raleigh, NC on June 7, 2017, at 2:00 pm. Gather in the 1300 quadrant. In an effort to alert the members of the House and Senate Committees on Rules as to the importance of ERA bills HB102 and S85, participants will distribute heart-shaped cookies and literature on why the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) should be ratified. The cookies will be provided to participants.

The Cookie Drop also flips the script on an incident in which former North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory handed pro-choice protestors cookies while they were protesting the infamous Motorcycle Vagina Laws. McCrory’s gesture was questioned as being patronizing. The Cookie Drop underscores the fact that the women of North Carolina don’t want cookies as platitudes; they want true legal equality in the United States. Take action on our ERA bills!

NC House:

NC House Bill H102, the bill to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, has been referred to the House Committee on Rules, Calendar and Operations.

It’s critically important for H102 to get a committee hearing so it can go forward before APRIL 27, 2017, crossover deadline.

Please CALL Tim Moore, Speaker of the House 919-733-3451 and urge him to take action to ensure a committee a hearing is held on ERA bill H102 before the deadline. Tim.Moore@ncleg.net

Please CALL the Rules Committee members as a priority action. E-mail them as a backup measure.

I urge the Rules Committee to hold a hearing on the Equal Rights Amendment (H102) before crossover deadline, April 27, 2017.

I urge you to support and vote for the ERA to ensure equal rights for women and men.
